On Sinking Qi to Dan-tian

5/21/2000

  • A trick is to relax the waist and the hip in order to sink qi to the dan-tian. Do this right before every openphase (typically doing a push) of the Wu (Hao) forms. Note that dan-tian is the area of qi reservoir about 4 fingers below the navel extending 4-6″ from that center (i.e. 8-12″ in diameter).
  • Some qi gong teachings might focus too much on only the single point and produce the side-effect of gathering qi too narrowly on that area. tai chi moves qi not along a single stream nor into a single point. It moves qi along bands into a wider area.
